Bali, where we finally stopped moving

The plan

Work mornings, explore afternoons. Actually stick to it.

What actually happened

We did both, badly and happily. The volcano hike happened on day two, the alarms stopped on day three, and the last three days were rice fields, laptops and long dinners.

Vinay wanted

A volcano hike and a temple at sunrise.

Aditi wanted

A villa with a view and absolutely no alarm clocks.

Stay

  • Rice terrace villa near Ubud

Pool facing the fields. Fast wifi, which mattered.

Eat

  • Warung down the lane

Ten dollars for two, best nasi campur of the week.

  • Ubud brunch spot

    Aditi's office for four mornings.

Do

  • Mount Batur sunrise hike

    Hard, cold, worth it. Once.

  • Rice terrace walk at 7am

Empty and free before the tour buses.

Vinay: 'We start at 2am for the sunrise.' We did. Once.

The verdict

The best workation format we've found: one big thing early, then slow down.

Would we go again? Yes, same villa, two weeks.
