Singapore · 5 nights · March
Singapore, where the plan survived exactly one day
The plan
A neat itinerary, one district per day, dinner booked in advance.
What actually happened
Day two we found a coffee place in Tiong Bahru and the itinerary quietly died. We walked instead, ate four times a day, and only booked things the same morning.
Vinay wanted
Museums, the old shophouse streets, and every hawker centre with a queue.
Aditi wanted
One rooftop, one very good breakfast spot, and no rushing between them.
Stay
Boutique shophouse hotel, Chinatown
Tiny rooms, perfect location, excellent coffee downstairs.
Marina Bay high floor, two nights
Aditi's contribution to the budget conversation. Worth it once.
Eat
Maxwell hawker centre
Go at 11am to beat the office crowd.
Tiong Bahru bakery morning
Became a daily fixture by accident.
Little India veg thali
Vinay's favourite meal of the trip.
Do
Gardens by the Bay at dusk
Do the free outdoor part first, then decide.
Shophouse walk in Joo Chiat
The most photogenic hour in the city.
National Museum
Two hours. Vinay would say four.
Vinay: 'It's a 12 minute walk.' It was 12 minutes. Every time. Suspicious city.
Aditi: 'We are not queueing for chicken rice.' We queued for chicken rice.
The verdict
The most walkable city we've done. Go with a loose plan and good shoes.
Would we go again? Yes, and next time only three neighbourhoods.
